The John Matthew Shippen Putter, Circa 1910

Shippen made and sold his signature golf clubs as a professional, which bore a stamp reading “J. M. Shippen.”

There are only three J. M. Shippen stamped golf clubs known to still be in existence. One is housed at the United States Golf Association’s museum, the second is in the collection and archives of the John Shippen Foundation, and the third was acquired by an antique collector on the Antiques Road Show.
